Local Artist Jack Candy-Kemp has been selected for the seventh edition of FBA Futures, the annual exhibition showcasing the best in new contemporary figurative painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking by the outstanding art graduates of 2018. The exhibition is presented by the Federation of British Artists (FBA) at Mall Galleries in central London.

FBA Futures is the UK’s biggest annual survey of emerging contemporary figurative art, mapping new practices and ideas of representation and draughtsmanship. In 2019, forty-one artists and over eighty works will be presented in the largest exhibition of FBA Futures since it began in 2012.

Jack Candy-Kemp recently graduated from the MA Painting course at Wimbledon College of Arts, UAL.

His practice is centred around tourism. Looking at the liminal spaces between destinations he portrays the reflective nature and the exhaustion that comes when travelling.

His work responds to the way we visualise the contemporary tourist experience and aims to destroy the contrived rose-tinted imagery that we are subjected to on a day to day basis. He addresses the reflective side to the ‘journey’ with a raw diaristic quality to his writing whilst responding to how we share the contemporary travel image through painting.

During FBA Futures, several awards will be made including the Be Smart About Art Award, Hottinger Prize for Excellence, and Great Art Visitors’ Choice Award.

FBA Futures is sponsored by Minerva.
